We recently visited a 91-year-old great-grandfather at his Northern Beaches retirement home. Upon reviewing his Will, we discovered it had several errors and was years out of date. By amending his will, this man’s wishes would now be carried out per his instructions, with his estate avoiding potential expensive litigation down the track.
Flaws in estate
We successfully rectified via mediation a deceased estate that contained a number of flaws such as leaving out key family members and not being signed correctly. Rectifying this in court would have directly and expensively impacted the estate itself, so this was a great result for our client and the beneficiaries.
A wealthy client of ours recently passed away and an apparent family member popped up claiming a large share of the estate.
After requiring the “apparent family member” to provide a DNA sample, we established that she was not a family member at all. As such, we were able to protect the estate of our client and the intended beneficiaries.
A couple in their late 60’s approached us asking to check their wills and thank goodness they did. Both wills were over 30 years old and in desperate need of an update. We updated the Executors reworded their wills to reflect a change in circumstances, particularly around children and grandchildren.
